server updates
First, I have removed mod_gzip for now. It
caused a few problems with MIME types
for some customers, and of course complicated
the load problems on mercury and scandium.
So it's out of here. I don't mind a slightly
higher bandwidth bill if it makes the servers
run more smoothly.
Along those lines, I've got mod_cronolog running
on mercury and scandium. Both servers were down
completely for 5-10 minutes earlier today while
I made the change. I can't say this has
completely solved the load problems, but it
certainly seems to have minimized them. I'll
be installing mod_cronolog on titanium and
vanadium in the near future.
You shouldn't need to do anything unless
you happened to put some mod_gzip configuration
options in your .htaccess file. (In which case
you need to remove them!)
